RE: Pushing the limits - but no choice here!

In your haste to get out of Dodge, don't forget to keep an eye out for black ice. Nasty stuff. Have a great/safe trip coming down. Ain't that some great stuff????? Guess I have driven nearly as much on this white stuff, and ice, as I have on dry pavement. I figure that, conservatively, I have nearly 2 million miles under the ole belt here - but that doesn't mean I am a good driver. The older I get the more I recognize my shortcomings are increasing - but at least I am seeing my own thus far. God Bless Bill

RE: Pushing the limits - but no choice here!

No - in answer to Hydronic heat on the Dynasty. It was an option but mine has the two heat pumps and then the furnace kicks in when it drops to around 24 degrees. It works great. Just got back from Dr appointment - got a good report, an answer to prayers. I checked the slide and nearly everything was thawed in the sun - temp was just above 32 degrees. Worked out and I pulled the slide in. Now getting ready to trek to the station to put in about 40 gal of blended fuel. Then ready to pull out soon - wife is not ready yet as she isn't packed in yet. RE: Pushing the limits - but no choice here!

It is. Coach is "snuggled" up to my deck and facing West. I have it plugged in and heat going to keep things warm enough to allow us in and out a lot for preparing. I should be back from La Crosse Wi by around 12:30 or 1 and with the sun I am hoping it will thaw enough to do the job - otherwise I will use wife's hair dryer and get it done that way (great recommendation). Leaving Monday and head South on I-35 - may stay the night in Osceola Ia and then on to Red Barn in Carthage Mo for a couple days to visit Aunt in Joplin. I think it's going to be chilly in Osceola and also Carthage - but hopefully it won't be really cold like here. On Edit: Walked the dog and it is presently 7 degrees out. I checked on the motorhome and furnace is keeping it nice and warm inside. May have to refill the propane tank by Friday though. God Bless Bill

RE: Pushing the limits - but no choice here!

Good recommendations here - I think the wife's hair dryer might be a better "first" choice. I managed to get most of the stuff off the top with a broom and by working the fabric from underneath. It's supposed to be in the middle or upper 30's tomorrow so when I get back from LaCrosse Wi there is a good chance it will melt off enough to pull it back in without doing anything else. Thank you for the thoughts --- God Bless Bill

Pushing the limits - but no choice here!

Due to Dr appointments for both of us - two today for wife, three tomorrow for me, and one more for wife on Wed, we are unable to leave here until this weekend. Since it's closing in on the weekend by the time we finish up loading and preparing - we elected to leave here on Monday the 8th. Of course, we knew we were pushing the limits on weather ----- sure nuf, we now have around 6 inches of that white stuff and cold weather is official. While I have the coach heat running and everything - I did leave the bedroom slide out and now have ice all over it. I may have to pour warm water over the pull-out cover before I pull the slide back in and make sure the seals are not frozen up. Unfortunately could not change the Dr appts and tests - but next year we will be more prepared and leave much earlier. The heating system in the motorhome really works great though. God Bless Bill

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

Ok - Jury is still "out" on this. I obtained the "brass bead latches" from the Hardware Hut. What I did was purchase a few of the smallest ones just to try them out. I received them and have installed one in a drawer - installation wasn't too bad. From initial impressions I think that possibly the retention strength for a drawer just may not be enough - it's secure and latches far easier than the Southco ones - but likewise the pressure to open the drawer is less also. I would guess that the metal ones will not fail as quickly as the plastic ones - but will see. From what I have found I will likely obtain the larger version of the latch and see if the tension is better. The ones I received seem to be suitable for doors and such but with the weight of contants in a drawer they may not serve the purpose. I have installed one (1) for now.. God Bless Bill

RE: Chevy Volt - towable? How about AC & Heat?

You know - there are some really great input on this thread. Many truths out here and on the guy running for medical equipment service - there simply is no reason why that work cannot be accomodated by something like the Mariner or Escape. I drove the Mariner and was very impressed by it - and darned near bought one. Only reason I didn't was because I was a little concerned about the replacement battery cost and the pressure the sales people put up in telling me ---- buy it now, we just may never get another one - last chance. Had one guy post that he was getting in the 30's reliably on his Mariner and he was in a southern state and running up to Ohio and around. Not sure I agree with the "yet undiscovered alternative" fuels and I think that we would do well with advancing what technology we presently have. Personally I think the way is Hydrogen, however that is just MHO God Bless Bill

RE: There are "No" stupid questions ----- repeat after me!

Getting a little off track here - and I just would like to be known that regardless of the state of mind of the questioning party - the need is very real. Look at it this way - if you were the person who's worked all their lives trying to raise a family, trying to pay your bills, trying to get ahead and now ----- that you have finally reached your goal you just want an RV. So - you and yours trudge off and buy something on impulse and then find yourselves up to the next in allegators and being unhandy you face the daunting task of learning "fast" in order to not look too stupid to your family. Then ----- wow - you stumble across this forum. Even though the first question you ask has been asked 1027 times before you came along, how would you know that? So - my answer is ------ be kind to the guy and help guide him the right way. After all - didn't someone give "You" that consideration and kindness somewhere or sometime back along the way????? Happy Thanksgiving God Bless Bill

There are "No" stupid questions ----- repeat after me!

There are "No" stupid questions! The folks here on this form are the broadest and most diverse knowlege base you will run into anywhere. If someone has a question, posts it to thie forum, the likelyhood of at least one of our members already having been there and done that ------ is extremely high. No - there are NO stupid questions so go right ahead and ask. Admittedly - there may be a few "testy" ones out there but ya gotta remember that he/she just may be having a rotten day themselves. Happy Thanksgiving and travel safely. God Bless all Bill

RE: Installed the ADCO whole coach cover today!

I had an issue with the side access zippers on the ADCO cover when I first got mine for my 32' Class A. ADCO was terrific and sent out a whole new cover when I complained. Hmmmm, I ended up fixing the zipper on the original cover. Anyone want to buy a new SFS Aqua Shed in the factory sealed box for cheap?.. 8-) I give up --- how the "dickens" did you manage to get the thing back into the container after using it???? RE: Installed the ADCO whole coach cover today!

I agree! I don't have a new plastic trash container but going to purchase one before I do take it off. That won't occur until sometime in March and then depending on how dry things are. I do like the cover though - it's well designed and fit quite well and came with all the necessary straps and some rope to secure the front cap in two places and also the rear cap in two places. Installed the ADCO whole coach cover today!

I ordered the large size one - to cover my Tourmaster with and possibly later the Dynasty, should I need it. There is absolutely "no" way one can get that thing back into the box in which it was delivered ------ it was very tightly wrapped. Read the instructions and then ignored the very first one. It said to unwrap the cover and locate the "front" label - then place it at the rear of the coach and then hold the front label and climb up the rear ladder pulling the cover with you. I don't have a rear ladder on the coach ---- so I just carried the bundle up top and unwrapped it at the very rear and "then" stretched it out to the front. Went smoothly and fairly easily. Had to perform this all by myself as wife has a bad back and unable to assist in some things - this was one. I protected a few sharper edges on coach beforehand and the cover slipped over nicely. Took about 1/2 hour to fit it down and then fish the straps underneath and secure them. Then the two ties on front and rear finished things off. Cover looks great - no issues in installation. I patted her and told her that I would be back in March to take the cover off. For the price I was reasonably impressed with the quality, fit and finish of the cover. God Bless Bill

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

Kind of frustrating to read about all the great things you guys are saying about the plastic latches...... when all I have is troubles with them. I could see an alignment issue or something with them "if" I were having troubles with just one, two, three or so of the latches and I replaced them only to have them fail again. That - would invite some closer inspections for the sake of alignment. But - this is "not" the case. The things are failing all over the place and yes, more than once has the replacement latch failed after I installed it. I could even see a problem if it was just a door or just a drawer - not the case. I have two overhead (bed) doors with failed latches, the small closet door beside the bed has one failed, the overhead doors in the bathroom are both failed, the cabinet door on right side just above the kitchen sink has failed, the pull drawers below the microwave has two that have failed --- and this isn't all of them.... I am waiting on the other type of latches and will "try" them. I ordered the smallest sized one and if it doesn't work well I may move up to the heavier sized. Don't get me wrong - I do not dislike the plastic latches - I really like the way they work, very positive latching system. Maybe the age and heat has just gotten to them - or maybe the newer ones have been built just a little better... God Bless Bill

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

Tracy - I would tend to agree with you on this one, however in light of the large number of failures in my case I am getting really tired of replacing and replacing and replacing. I don't really mind replacing one from time to time - with the unit being made out of plastic I can understand that once in a while you will have to do that. But - I have gone through a bag full of those darned things and still had 3 or 4 left to replace. That was in July and August. Presently I now have at least another dozen that are broken again - in some cases the very ones I have replaced. There has "got" to be a better way! God Bless Bill

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

You guys must have better "hardward" stores around there than we do around here. Our stock nothing even close to the latches we are discussing and I have been to them all - we have Hardware Hank, Ace hardware, Norby's supplies, Menards, Fleet Farm, Blains Fleet Farm, and a couple other independents - but in order to access them it means up to a 75 mile trip one way for 90% of them. SunflyerA - that is the reason why I only ordered a few of those things - if they have that issue then they won't grace my coach very long. It's too bad that someone doesn't make the "striker" out of metal - of all the latches I have replaced (and it's in the dozens) there has been only about 3 or 4 that I had to replace the case too. Thank you all God Bless Bill

RE: Chevy Volt - towable? How about AC & Heat?

Interesting information comes out when looking into things. The "concept" of the Volt is far - far overdue. But I feel that the better way is still with a small Diesel instead of a gas engine. Once they can get the battery range up to near 100 miles before the need to start the engine - then they have something. I would say, offhand, that once these vehicles begin to hit the market that they will be fully towable behind the motorhomes. I do not presently need a vehicle for that purpose and since being "burned" by GM I may not see my way back to them for the next vehicle. God Bless Bill

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

Understand all the above -- but we must have something that is not in need of "pampering" because there simply is no way we can chase around and monitor our grandkids all the time. So - to that end, I have ordered a few of the Metal, spring loaded, EPCO brand latches - EPC-1011-DB and see how they work out. I have seen and used something similar before and was pleased with it - but I simply do not like things like that made out of plastic. God Bless Bill
